Find Relief from Dry Eye this Season

Personalized dry eye care at Tower Clock Eye Center

As the leaves change across Northeast Wisconsin and cooler weather settles in, you may notice your eyes feeling drier, itchier or more irritated than usual. Indoor heating, windy conditions and hours spent looking at screens can all contribute to dry eye symptoms.

If you’re constantly reaching for eye drops, dealing with blurry vision or experiencing that uncomfortable gritty feeling, you’re not alone. But you don’t have to simply live with it.

At Tower Clock Eye Center, our new Dry Eye Clinic is dedicated to helping patients understand what’s causing their symptoms and find treatment options that fit their needs.

What Are the Signs of Dry Eye?

Dry eye doesn’t always mean your eyes feel dry. Symptoms can include:

  • Burning, stinging or itching
  • Redness or a gritty sensation
  • Excessive watering or tearing
  • Blurry or fluctuating vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Discomfort when wearing contact lenses

Even watery eyes can be a sign of dry eye. Irritation may trigger excess tear production, but those tears don’t always provide the lubrication your eyes need.

Why Does Dry Eye Happen?

Dry eye develops when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Common contributing factors include aging, certain medications, extended screen time, environmental conditions and problems with the oil-producing glands along your eyelids.

Because the cause varies from person to person, over-the-counter eye drops may not provide enough relief.

How Our Dry Eye Clinic Can Help

Our Dry Eye Clinic takes a more focused approach to identifying and managing dry eye. An evaluation may include reviewing your symptoms and medical history and examining your tear film, eyelids and ocular surface.

Based on your needs, treatment may include artificial tears, eyelid care, prescription medications or other in-office therapies when appropriate.

The goal is to address what’s causing your discomfort rather than simply treating the symptoms. With a personalized treatment plan, many patients can better manage dry eye and enjoy greater everyday comfort.

Don’t Ignore Uncomfortable Eyes

As we head into the colder months, now is a good time to pay attention to persistent eye irritation. Taking regular breaks from screens, avoiding direct airflow from heating vents and using a humidifier may help. However, if symptoms continue to interfere with your daily life, a professional evaluation can help determine the next steps.

You deserve to read, work, drive and enjoy your day without constantly thinking about your eyes.
