Oculofacial plastic surgery is a sub-specialty of ophthalmology focused on conditions involving the eyelids, brows, tear ducts, and surrounding facial structures.
The eyelids and adjacent facial structures play an important role in protecting the eyes, conveying emotion, and supporting overall facial appearance. When conditions affect these areas, specialized care may be needed to restore function, improve comfort, or address changes in appearance.

Is Eyelid Surgery Covered by Insurance?
Yes, but not all of the time. Insurance companies set specific criteria that must be met in order for them to contribute to the costs of surgery. If the criteria is met, the surgery is performed for reconstructive purposes.
If the criteria is not met, you are still able to have cosmetic eyelid surgery to improve appearance.

Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty, commonly called eyelid surgery or referred to as an “eyelid lift”, addresses excess tissue and other changes affecting the upper or lower eyelids.
Ptosis Repair
Ptosis is drooping of the upper eyelid that can sometimes interfere with the visual field. Ptosis repair, which is also referred to as an “eyelid lift”, is designed to improve eyelid position and peripheral vision.
Brow Lifting Procedures
A low or droopy eyebrow is a normal part of aging and can contribute to upper eyelid heaviness, decreased peripheral vision, and a tired, angry, or sad appearance.
Eyelid Reconstruction
Eyelid bumps or lesions may require removal when they are bothersome, suspicious, or associated with skin cancer. Removing these lesions can create defects in the eyelid that require specialized reconstruction.
Entropion and Ectropion Repair
Entropion occurs when the eyelid turns inward, while ectropion occurs when the eyelid turns outward. Both conditions can cause irritation, tearing, or discomfort requiring surgical correction.
Tear Duct Blockage & Watery Eyes
Problems with the tear drainage system can cause excessive tearing, irritation, or other symptoms. Specialized evaluation can identify the cause and determine whether surgical or nonsurgical treatment may be appropriate.
Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery & Facial Rejuvenation
Age-related changes around the eyes can sometimes be addressed with or without surgery. Depending on the patient’s goals, treatment options may include upper or lower Blepharoplasty, Ptosis repair, or Brow Lift. Adjunct procedures may include facial fat grafting, Botox®, or dermal fillers
