Dr. Matthew Thompson, MD, recently traveled to Tanzania with FOCUS Inc., a program dedicated to advancing ophthalmology education and training around the world. During the trip, he worked with local residents to share cataract surgery techniques, retina examination skills, and hands-on laboratory training for first-year residents. He also delivered lectures on scleritis and post–cornea transplant management.
This marks the third visit by FOCUS to the program in Tanzania, with plans to return in the future. Excitingly, one of the residents will be pursuing a retina fellowship in India next year—sponsored by FOCUS—with the goal of setting up retina surgery equipment upon his return.
